A detailed and well thought out brief is extremely important for any project, no matter how large or small. It will not only ensure that the project meets your needs but that it is completed in the most efficient way possible. A good creative brief should include:

Who is your site aimed at?
Are they likely to be web-savvy?
What other interests would the primary user have?
What other websites might they visit?

Appearance and Tone

How would you like the site to feel?
Note down five or six ‘buzz words’ that spring to mind when thinking of your ideal site. are there Any specific navigational or aesthetic ‘must haves’?
Do you have a logo?

What are you trying to comunicate and to whom?
Are you using the website to sell anything?
What is the single most important function of the site?

Current Website

Do you have a website already?
If so, what is not working within the current design and what, if anything, are you keen to retain?

Web Reference

Please provide the URLs of at least three websites that you like, or have elements you like. These do not need to be related in subject matter to your project but may contain design or functionality that is relevant. You could also provide links to images or videos that have ‘inspirational’ qualities too.

Pages and features

Please give an idea of how many pages you require and what they will be.
Are there any particular features that you require the site to include? eg: email contact form, music player, integration with any other sites/programs etc..
Will you require any e-commerce facilities and, if so, do you currently sell anything elsewhere online?

Maintenance and Flexibilty

How often will your site need to be updated?
Do you plan to update the site yourself?
If so do you have any experience with dreamweaver / cms / wordpress and will you require the ability to add additional pages yourself or just edit current ones?
If you require a cms installation do you have a preferance as to which one?

Content and Passwords

All launch content (and any ftp details / cpannel passwords etc..) will be required before i begin work on the project, please ensure you have everything that is needed before we begin.

Time Frame and Budget

Are there any deadlines for the completion of the project?
Are there budget limitations? This may seem like prying but it is important that you have considered this as it will impact on the scope of the project.

There may be other factors that are specific to your site however these points above are the base elements that should be considered in any project.
